Petersburg Alaska is an island on the Alaskan coast. There are many activities to do here: canoeing, kayaking, fishing, hiking, viewing glaciers, whale watching or just relaxing on vacation. This is also where you could take start your journey to mountain climb Devils Thumb. Yet, it is a place that still maintains its small town roots.

They have the facilities to process your fish and ship them home for you right on the island. Petersburg is well known for their for their fresh water fishing of cutthroat trout and salmon or you can choose to ocean fish for saltwater halibut, rockfish or salmon.

The island offers many festivals each year:
The Little Norway Festival the 3rd week end in May celebrates their Norway Heritage is one of their biggest events each year.
The Salmon Derby is where they spent 4 days fishing for King Salmon offering very good prizes!
The Canned Salmon Classic is where people guess how many cans of Salmon will be processed that year by all of the canneries on the island.
The Fourth of July is a typical old time Independence Day celebration.
Humpy 500 Go-cart Race is held in October when the canning champion is named. The children decorate and race go carts.

ferry.jpgOne of the few ways to reach Petersburg Island is on the Alaskan Highway Ferry System. This is actually used by students to go from island to island for sporting events. You can also fly in or travel by land, but you must still take the ferry out to the island.
